This is our story
Names are not just labels. Yet our names are not always treated with respect in data systems that are not designed to capture our names. For example, individuals with names
- Multiple surnames and forenames –> Keep only 1 term
- Does not have a surname –> Must invent a surname
- Long names (exceeding pre-set limits) –> cropped
- Diacritics –> ignored
These seemingly innocent design limitation have direct impact on our day-to-day interactions, as well as down-stream consequences on the opportunity to use our data to drive important policy and decision-making processes.
We need your story.
Please share a story when your name is misrepresented in data systems. With enough stories, we can be seen. All stories will be collated and archived here on this website. All rights reserved to those who submitted their stories.
